From found piece to timeless furniture: our restoration process

Behind every piece of furniture at Atelier Formo lies a story that goes beyond what meets the eye. Many pieces arrive with traces of use, minor damage, or a finish that has seen better days. This is not a disadvantage, but rather the starting point of the restoration process.

We always begin by assessing the construction. Stability and functionality are paramount. Joints are checked, loose parts are repaired, and, where necessary, replaced with respect for the original techniques and materials.

Next comes the surface. Wood is carefully cleaned and refinished in a way that suits the age and character of the furniture. We avoid modern varnishes that seal off the furniture, preferring finishes that allow the material to breathe and age beautifully.

Our goal is not to make a piece of furniture look new. We want it to retain its history, but be ready for daily use once again. Every piece that leaves our workshop is intended to play a role in a home, not to be carefully admired.

In this way, a found vintage piece of furniture becomes a timeless object once more. With respect for the past and room for the future.
